managers and the bigwigs need to read The Geek Gap. I wont link it but you can get it off amazon, B&N or whatever. Geeks need to read it to but managers are less to understand about these things.

I understand how business people think but lets face facts. Those of us who are software developers/geeks/3-D programmers suits are uncomfortable and are frankly a distraction. In fact, most coders work BETTER and MORE EFFECIENT in jeans and a shirt. This is undisputed.

i do wear khakis sometimes but the rest of the time jeans with a casual shirt OVER the pants with no belt .. but who cares? the boss does too.

So, only one button unbuttoned?? No gold chain and chest hair showing? ;-) but that looks so classy.

So much easier for us women. Much for flexibility in "business casual" attire, of course there is the concern about going too hootchie but sometimes that works out too for being "on the track"

So let me get this straight- you're supposed to shine your pants and press your shoes? No wonder I never get any job offers!

I am a schlub and I am overdressed at my work -- where we work on videogames.

Excellent post though, someday I might dress like a grown-up and I'll be coming back here.
